- Last December a few friends got together in Nashville to record a bunch of songs. Songs about love, betrayal, murder, hope and redemption. The session started off casually. As the songs and the sound began to unwind an album was realized. Lex Price produced and engineered. The Westies were born a few months later when a band was put together to play the songs live. The Westies are:
Johnny Darkstar – Guitar, Vox
JP – Guitars: Pedal, Lap, Steel and Mandolin
Heather Murphy – Fiddle, Vox
Magic Mikey (Michael McDermott) - Bass
Bobby D - Drums
Engine Dan – Piano and Organ
The album will be released in the fall of 2013 and they’ll be playing a few shows here and there leading up to it. That’s about it for now. Oh, except that the reference point for the band’s name is not cute little white puppies. It’s the ruthless gang of Irish American punks that ruled and terrorized Hell’s Kitchen in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s. Call it, “ameri-gangsta-cana.”

- The Edgewater neighborhood comes alive for its third-annual, all-ages street festival in the heart of Chicago's North Side. This one-day event, a recognized venue for the 2010 World Music Festival, features an exciting line-up of live music, beer gardens, food tents, a Green Pavilion featuring exhibits and ideas on how to lower your carbon footprint, a raffle and silent auction and, last but not least, a Kid's Corner featuring fun games and other exciting child-related activities.
