Spring Has Sprung

My sincere apologies that it has been this long. Everytime i write a blog, i'm always happy that i did and promise to do it more often. Kind of like therapy, but then months go by and i never do. I would always dread going to therapy, thinking of every excuse in the book to cancel or reschedule the appointment, but my fear of disappointing people would always outweigh my fear or dread of going and i'd end up going and be glad i did. Mind you, i haven't been to therapy in years.

I've stopped reading the Pauper sky board, do they still call it that? Things just started getting rather nasty and it bummed me out , so i just stopped reading. Its disappointing cuz when there were good threads going, good debate, i really dug it and it helped me see certain things i would not have normally seen. Then there came some rant about Wounded.....nasty things about my wife and i tried to remember, " When people are nasty, its because of something inside of them, not something inside of you that makes them the way they are. " That's all fine and dandy but part of me wants to fight.....regardless of how i try and evolve, how many books i read on spirituality, how many healers i go to,....if you fuck with mine....i still may just wanna knock you out.  So much for my evolution huh?

THe record is newly mastered ( we had two go arounds for that) and i really am over the moon about it.  I feel like a kid with a secret and i wanna tell all of you this secret but i can't just yet. I must let the process take its course and in due time, we'll all know it. I think we are very close to announcing the record release show on June 30th at Lincoln Hall. Speaking of Lincoln Hall, sorry about the delay in the DVD......too many things, that are too long and boring and  confusing to tell and even some of it i'm totally still in the dark about why certain things happened the way they did ....Regardless, DVD's should be going out imminently .

I'd like to publicly  welcome my new booking agent Laurel Falkenstein from Silver Leaf Booking. Laurel is amazing and i'm proud to have her as part of the team !!

Hope to see you at Montrose Room on March 31....

talk soon.......xo

Seriously, love love love the Lincoln Hall dvd. That show, that night, that crowd, and you, were so amazing. And to have that captured SO well, I mean the sound, the lighting, and especially your energy. It's the next best thing to being back there again. Don't pay any attention to the boards, and know that there are so many more of us out here supporting you, than the whiny few who aren't. Cannot wait to hear the new album!
Michael, please don't let a few idiots keep you off the boards because, as Shari said, there are many more supporters than those detractors that hide behind their keyboards and spout their crap. Please shrug those off as the morons they are and take the good stuff to heart. Also cannot wait for the new CD and the Philly and Freehold shows. And if you play Wounded at both just to prove what an incredible song it is, I wouldn't be offended in the least. Sucks to think that you might decide not to play it because one or two people aren't so fond of it when, in reality, it's one of the best songs you've ever written, hell, one of the best songs anyone has ever written.
Hey Michael - I concur with Shari and Mark. Please don't let that stuff get you down. There's always going to be a few that don't like something or want to put someone down. I personally love Wounded (one of my all time fave songs - out of all the musicians I go see) so I hope you play it either in Philly or Freehold or both. I'll be at both and I can't wait. Miss you and your wonderful wife. You couldn't have done better than H, I'm sure of that. Not only does she compliment you well musically, she is so kind to everyone she meets. She's a real genuine kind spirit! See you in June!!! xo Donna
Every fan has a right to like certain songs and express their dislike for others. That's not a reflection on the artist but on their own personal taste. Michael, it's probably not a surprise to you that I don't love all the songs you've released just like I don't love every song any artist I like has released, but I do think the vast majority of what I've heard from you is up there with any artist I know. You cannot account for any fan's taste. Spewing hate against another fan liking what they don't is wrong though but please realize that most of your fans here aren't like that. Donna just reminded me though, I totally forget to mention those comments about Heather. They were totally out of line and should have been discarded as the drivel they were, just like the other negative comments. As Donna said, Heather only adds to what were already amazing shows and we (the collective we minus a couple of idiots) are so happy you've found such a wonderful person to share your life with first and foremost while also appreciating what she brings to a McDermott show. Having the chance to talk with Heather before the last few shows I've attended I can't help but concur with Donna on all the good things she said about being a kind, genuine person. Anyone that's listened to your music knows you struggled in that area and it makes a true fan happy to see it end up the way it should have.

Donna and I will be at both the Freehold and Philly shows so Wounded at both would be a good sign that you don't listen to the bullshitters. Oh, and that Steve guy will be following us around too and I think he's probably on the same wavelength although I'll leave it to him to chime in.

    • My fiance and I are getting married on January 19th. We're going to Alabama for our honeymoon, so I looked up the Workplay Theater to see who was playing that week. Turns out that your playing there on the 20th, so we bought our tickets. I've been to the Workplay before, and they had extra concert flyers for the street teams. If I got a flyer, would you autograph it for us so we can have a cool honeymoon souvenir. We would be most appreciative. Thanks if you can. Understandable if you can't though. Either way, it's going to be a great show, I'm sure. Joe and Linda

    • Hi Michael! I would like to see and hear you once with your fantastic music here in Switzerland!!!I'm a longtime fan since 620 West Surf and I have all your cd's and many dvd's! I'm looking forward to " Hit me back "!! Best wishes from Switzerland

    • Been a fan since I heard Paint You A Song on your 2004 Live At Shubas. It blew me away. The visual aspects of your lyrics are amazing. I've always tried to write like that. If cornered, and under duress, I would have to say that it along with 'Still Ain't Over You Yet' are my faves. Anyway, enough of the fan gushing. I got two questions, is ther any chance you'll be making it up here to the Great Northwest, and is there any chance you will release a studio version of Paint You A Song? God bless.

    • I love you music Michael!! I get so wet when I hear your voice!!

    • Thank you for the great show tonight, and especially for being so gracious toward my wife and me in speaking with us after the show and signing her CD and my hat. I'd like to send you a message regarding something that we have in common regarding our recent losses, but not in a public forum. You have my email from my signup tonight. Please send me a message there. I'd like to add to what I was able to say in the crowded space we were in. Like I told you tonight, it will get better, but will never go away. And that is a good thing, believe it or not. Peace. And God bless you and all of your loved ones.

    • Hi Michael and Heather

It is great to meet new friends and thats how i felt. Michael and yourself are so down to earth. I would have texted Heather by now but i lost my phone in a cup holder in the limo and they are having to take panels out to get to it. My luck !! I should have it by Wednesday i hope. Anyway so looking forward to our next meeting. You know chicago so you guys make the after show plans. We are getting a Hotel as close to the show as we can. Until then God Bless !!!! • your songwriting may not save the people you love in the literal sense of the word, but for myself, it touches me and moves me and makes me think about things, good or bad, in such ways that I never had before. There's a lot to be said for that and I thank you. Love the pink rabbits. They bring your daughter joy as your music does.

    • Your show on NYE was FABULOUS!!! My wife and I thought you were by far the best act of the evening. Thanks for the wonderful time.

    • Glad I found your website. Was bored and typed your name and Mike Jordans on Google. Amazing. Would love to hear you again. Have to come to Chicago or somewhere I guess.
